Stories from Forward Thinkers

Raj
Registered Nurse

I work directly with the residents here. I know them well, I’ve been here since 2012, and this is like my second home. It’s definitely like a family.

I worked in a hospital before, that was definitely really busy. When I started working here I immediately had more attachment with the residents and I became more interested in spinal cord injury.

It’s a really rewarding place, it’s very fun to work here, it’s not like ‘under pressure’ work. Work here is friendly, with a friendly team. The time is passing very quickly!

Mary
Personal Care Assistant

When I first came to Ferguson Lodge, I was a bit apprehensive in working here. I had no knowledge of this type of work but… I’ve been here for 20 years! So if it wasn’t fulfilling and fun for me, then I would’ve left ages ago.

The residents do look upon us as part of their family. I really enjoy coming to work because I know that I can be myself and the residents are quite supportive of that. They’re very cheeky, there’s bantering and joking and, it just makes your shift a lot easier.

Melissa Decker
CEO

My favourite thing about Forward is the people. It’s inspiring to witness the profound impact we have made supporting people with spinal cord injury and to see all the lives we continue to touch each day.

Through collaboration within our teams, the community, and the wider sector we can extend our reach and our positive impact.
